ABOUT SHAMPOO BAR

  • What is a shampoo bar?

    A hair cleanser that exists in solid form, unlike conventional liquid shampoo. A shampoo bar is either made by saponification like soaps, or made by adding surfactants. A shampoo bar can take different forms depending on the brand.

  • How to check the pH of the shampoo bar before buying it?

    It is difficult to verify the pH of the shampoo bar if it is not mentioned on the packaging or elsewhere.

  • Are there natural hair products with a pH of 5.5 that are used for bathing?

    Yes, Polygonum and Ginseng are natural cleansers used in the Chinese subcontinent. These two plant have a pH of 5.5 and have long been used in Chinese medicine for cleaning the hair and skin.

  • What ingredients do you use?

    We use local ingredients from Europe and they are organic but we do not yet have certification. We use sodium cocoyl isethionate (sci) derived from coconut as our main surfactant which is 100% biodegradable and very soft unlike sodium lauryl sulfate. Click here to find out more.

  • What is the shampoo bar to use for irritated scalp?

    Irritation of the scalp could be caused by frequent use of alkaline shampoos. It is better to find a shampoo bar with a pH of 5.5 for irritated scalp.

  • ​Is it true that a solid cosmetic product is equivalent to 2 liquid cosmetic products?

    It depends on how we use it and store it. It is best to keep the solid bar dry after use to have a long shelf life.

  • Is it good to use a saponified shampoo bar or an added surfactant?

    A saponified shampoo bar is like a soap with an alkaline pH, but our scalp and hair have an acidic pH. It is better to use a product that naturally matches the pH of our hair. The answer is to opt for a solid, non-saponified shampoo with a pH of 5.5 or less.

  • Does neutral pH or balanced pH mean 5.5?

    It depends sometimes it means 7 and sometimes less than 7. A pH of 7 or 6 is not enough for the hair. It must be less than 5.5.

  • What is a surfactant and is it good or bad for the environment?

    A surfactant is a substance that removes dirt and grease when used with water, it gives foam. It definitely has an impact on the environment just like soda.

  • I had sticky hair with some shampoo bars! Is this normal?

    It is not normal to have sticky hair with shampoo bars. If the product you used contains less or no detangling agents to counter the negative charge of the hair, it is possible to have sticky and tangled hair. It is recommended to use properly formulated shampoo bars rather than handmade shampoos. We suggest you use our detangling shampoo bars.

  • How to use a shampoo bar?

    Wet your hair, wet the shampoo bar, rub it on your hands until you see the foam and apply it to your hair. Or it is also possible to rub the shampoo bar directly on wet hair.

  • What is soap-free soap and why is it recommended by dermatologists?

    Soap without soap is a syndet, which means a combination of surfactants. It has the same pH as human skin, 5.5, and is better than alkaline soaps.

  • How do I create a My PURC account?

  • When will I receive my package?

    If you live in the Netherlands your package will arrive within 3 business days. Do you live in Belgium or Germany then delivery will take about 7 business days. For other parts of Europe delivery is within 14 days. The rest of world is within 30 days.

  • The product I want to order is out of stock, what do I do now?

    We try to restock our products in time, but sometimes delays in shipment or a sudden increase in demand can cause a product to be temporarily out of stock. If that is the case, please send us an e-mail with the name of the product and we will let you know when the item is restocked.

  • Can I cancel my order?

    Of course. If your order hasn’t been shipped yet we will cancel the order and send your money back immediately. If your order is already shipped we kindly ask you to return it to us as stated below.

  • What do you use to package the products?

    We choose to pack our products in an eco-friendly way, by using old newspapers and (recycled) cardboard boxes to avoid the use of plastic and promote recycling. If the item is small and light we use envelopes.

  • Can I return my product?

    Of course you can*! Within 30 days after receipt of the product you can go to the return and cancellation page.

    *There however some exeptions. If the package is opened or damaged or if the product is already used you cannot return the item.

  • I want my account to be removed.

    If you want us to remove your account you can contact us by e-mail and us know that you want us to remove your account. We will make sure your account will be removed within 3 business days. You will receive a confirmation as soon as your account has been removed.

  • I did not receive my package within the mentioned period of time, what do I do now?

    If you have not received your package within the delivery time mentioned in question 1 please contact our customer service and we will try to track your package or come up with an appropriate solution.

  • I did not receive all the items I ordered.

    We are so sorry to hear that and offer our sincere apologies. Please let us know what item is missing and we will make sure it is sent to you as soon as possible.

  • I received the wrong item.

    We are very sorry to hear you have received the wrong item. Please let us know by e-mail which item you have received and we will inform you further.

  • Can I pick up my order?

    Yes, you can. If you choose to pick up your order there are of course no delivery costs. The pick up location is in Heerlen. Please contact us to set up a time and date for the pick up.

  • When do I receive my money back?

    We will send you a refund within 3 business days after we have received your return parcel. Items that are used or damaged cannot be returned. Items that are seperately packed must have an intact packaging, otherwise we cannot offer you a full refund.
